As the Manager, Manufacturing II, is responsible for managing work associated with converting raw materials and components into finished goods including general production manufacturing, assembling finished components or parts into finished products, process manufacturing batches of bulk materials/ingredients including mechanical and chemical processing, setting up and operating machine tools to convert materials into parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies, surface finishing of parts, components, and assembled items, packaging materials or finished goods into containers for the purpose of protection, display, and handling. The Manager II oversees experienced professionals and supervisors who exercise latitude and independence in assignments to ensure productivity, quality, facility housekeeping and safety goals for multiple produce lines or channels. Duties include policy and strategy implementation for short-to-medium term results. Incumbents influence others outside of their own job area regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager this position is based in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Major Accountability:

  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing production functions for multiple product processes.
  • Responsible for managing and implementing procedures for current and for new products process
  • Ensures subordinates provide for a safe working environment on the shop floor.
  • Prepare and administer operating budgets for the respective manufacturing departments.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Directs, plans, and coordinates related activities to optimize manufacturing processes including safety, productivity, product quality, facility utilization, people utilization, and inventory management within budget and time requirements.
  • Analyzes reports on operation activities, performance and results; initiates actions to correct deviations and variables related to cost and/or schedule overruns, and other performance issues.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost to prevent operational delays.
  • Performs required human resource activities (e.g., recruiting, coaching, counseling, performance management, development etc.).
  • Reviews weekly production schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations and meet shipping schedule deadlines.
  • Develops value streams and identifies launch areas and timelines.
  • Oversees new product introduction activities and processes through subordinates.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the engineering or similar field preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience or 14 years’ experience in lieu of degree.
  • Good interpersonal skills to influence team members.
  • Six Sigma Experience
  • Manufacturing Management
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Demonstrated knowledge of corrective action processes.
  • ISO 9001-2015, ISO 14000, Safety, Team building.
  • Good software applications skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Work effectively with all levels of management, staff, clients and regulatory agencies.
