The Lead Hardware Engineer for Digital position is responsible for overall hardware deliverables. This includes developing and testing embedded communications hardware, sensors, network equipment, mobile devices, Bluetooth, communication tech (3G,4G/LTE) NFC RFID, 6LoWPAN, Compliance testing (UL, TUV, CE).  This role is responsible for designing and validating connectivity hardware for all of Welbilt brands.   Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, this position is based in New Port Richey, Florida.   We put the 'fast' in fast food and the refinement in fine dining.   • Lead design and development of embedded boards, sensors and systems for IoT, connectivity and communications.
  • Familiar with all aspects of Printed circuit board development, schematic design, testing, including PCB layout process, Gerbers, and manufacturing documentation. Experience with Electronic CAD tools like ORCAD, Altium or PADS and simulation tools like Multisim, PSPICE and other analysis tools.
  • Working with procurement, supply-chain and vendors in maintaining BOM, addressing component obsolescence, and any sustaining activities.
  • Researching new IoT hardware, sensors, and recommending technology solutions for commercial kitchen space.
  • Familiarity with UL, CE, TUV, EMT/EMC, FCC and other wireless certifications for regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in different technologies – Wired Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, MiWi, LoRa, LPWAN, Near-field, Cellular 3G,4G/LTE, and standard serial communications like Modbus, CAN etc.

Essential Job Functions:  
  • Lead hardware engineering activities for sensors, connectivity, IoT, communications and networks.
  • Hardware Engineering Functional requirements creation, review, and change management.
  • Design Reviews - hardware and software for communication systems and creating hardware specifications
  • Leading field testing, validation with customer, and transition to commercialization working with Brand/Product design centers.
  • Creating Statements of Work, Purchase Req., and other supply-chain documents for consultants, vendor purchases and partners work orders.
  • Agile Project Management for Kitchen Connect projects with customers - POC to Beta Field trials to Production
  • Holding Scrum sessions, Project Meetings for co-ordination with IT, Service, Engineering, Product Managers and off-shore teams.           
  • Working with Legal on Intellectual Property (IP), Freedom to Operate (FOP) and other development agreements for Intellectual property protection and freedom to operate.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Science or Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of experience required. If no degree, 15 years of experience required.
  • Proficient in hardware and software tools – CAD tools like OrCAD, Altium, and simulation tools.
  • Software - IDE, Compilers, Debug tools, Network troubleshooting tools. Issues tracking tool, and configuration Management tools.                                                                                                                              
  • Familiar with embedded Computer Programming languages like C, C++ and Java etc.  Experience with Ethernet, Wi-Fi networks, LAN, PAN, WAN, POS and Mobile Networks.                                                                                                                                       Familiar with Operating Systems- Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.                                                                                     
  • Familiar with ioT (Internet of Things) protocols like MQTT, AMQP, HTTPS, SNMP, FTP etc. along with Security aspects.
  • Experience with Protocols like RS485, CAN, TCP/IP, ZigBee, Mi-Wi, NB-IOT and other ioT related technologies, Familiar with Databases, cloud and embedded security.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
