As Technical Documentation Specialist this person will Supports the global Product Line by producing high-quality documentation appropriate for its intended audience in multiple publication formats contributing to the overall product line success. Collaborates with teams, engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to make our products easier to install, operate, and service.  Takes technical data, drawings, diagrams, and instructions and produces documentation with clear intent and communication. 

Reporting directly to the Manager of Technical Documentation; this position is located in Manitowoc, WI at our Manitowoc Ice* facility.  
Major Accountability:

  • Service documentation preparation and publishing of: Bulletins, Instructions, Use & Care, Troubleshooting, and Parts Manuals
  • Monitor engineering releases to determine requirements for new/revised documents or parts assemblies.
  • Development of operational guidelines, preventative maintenance cards, and other customer support items 
  • Assist in identification of industry documentation trends and recommendations for alternative method to provide technical support
  • Key Task and Responsibilities: 
  • Technical writing/material development
  • Create exploded views and maintain the parts database
  • Work closely with engineering and service personnel to determine maintenance, service, and troubleshooting requirements
  • Maintain the integrity of the documentation servers, parts database, and website

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Graphic Design, Technical Writing or English and
  • 3 years previous experience in technical writing with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud software, graphic creation from 3D models, maintenance of CMS and database systems required, or will consider 7 years of previous technical writing with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud software, Graphic creation from 3D models, maintenance of CMS and database systems, in lieu of education.  
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and focus on detail
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation 
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts / industry terminology and make them easily understandable in written and visual formats.
  • Excellent written skills in English.
  • Strong working knowledge of the following programs:
    • MicroSoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
    • Adobe Creative Cloud (Specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat
    • FrameMaker, Premiere, other Cloud & Legacy Adobe and file transfer protocol software
  • Ability to determine and create exploded views for desktop publishing from Pro-E or other 3D software
  • Work with multiple graphic file formats, EPS, JPG, PNG, DWG, CGM, DXF, IGES, PDF, PSD, TIFF etc.
  • Database, CMS knowledge – Component Content Management System (CCMS) knowledge is a plus
  • Willing and able to travel 5% of the time.
