As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, you will coordinate, administer and implement the Manufacturing Engineering functions to ensure cost reductions, product /process improvements and controls, plant layout, workflow analysis, equipment justification and purchase, tooling requirements, safety and project management, manufacturing process development, and labor standards.    Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this position is located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.  If you’re up to the challenge, the reward is satisfaction . . . and knowing you helped build something real.  Join our passionate team and help build something you can be proud of – a future filled with passion, pride, and satisfaction.   Areas of Major Accountability:
  • Responsible for establishing and maintenance of labor standards and manufacturing costs for new and existing product/processes.
  • Responsible for data collection, plot quality trends, perform reliability assessments, develop process capability studies, statistical testing and developing sampling programs.
  • Responsible for quality system compliance in manufacturing, including ISO document control for Manufacturing.
  • Responsible for factory or facility equipment justification, procurement, and installation.
  • Responsible for administering and creating Company policies and procedures. 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Lead or mentor projects in conjunction with other resource management (i.e. NPI, Foam, Refrigeration, Advanced Engineering cross-functional projects, special projects as defined) related to Engineering.  Work with team to plan, coordinate and implement activities to support successful new product launches including make/buy analyses, new process introduction, and others.
  • Lead the initiation and implementation of major process designs, line design and product changes, methods, tools and fixtures (capitol tooling design) that assures product quality, employee safety and increased productivity.
  • Define, establish, and lead all required documentation to manage manufacturing processes including analytical models, procedures, work instructions, employee training tools, process FMEA’s and others.
  • Lead and mentor Manufacturing in Lean and Six Sigma (DMAIC) teams and projects.  Lead and mentor manufacturing continuous improvement teams initiating quality improvements and addressing warranty issues as appropriate.
  • Maintain facility blueprints and drawings.
  • Fulfill financial control and risk management responsibilities inherent in this position.
  • Support assigned manufacturing processes to ensure processes meet Company’s expectations for safety, quality, delivery, inventory and cost.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field, preferably Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience.
  • Union experience preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma - Green Belt certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds unassisted.

Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the company in support of job functions.
  • Multiple task management ability with ability to plan and execute plans.
  • High degree of mechanical and technology aptitude.
  • Ability to design and provide definition of drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to use various measuring instruments including but not limited to micrometer, caliber, plug-gauges, tape measure, etc.
  • Complete understanding of reliability concepts and process capability methods.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook programs and Auto-Cad software.
  • Successfully complete all training required by the safety / training matrix within 6 months, or within time constraints set by governmental regulations.
  • Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed.
