As Model Maker this person performs fabrication and assembly tasks related to: product variants; test fixtures; NPI (New Product Introduction) verification and validation activities. This position is technical and hands on in nature, with an emphasis on manual machine tool set-up and operation.

Reporting directly to the Manager Engineering Lab; this position is based in Manitowoc, WI.
  
Major Accountability: 

  • Work safely and possess the discernment of when to ask for help/training on: equipment, process, or task
  • Set-up and operate model shop equipment
  • Act as a contributing team member in Lab activities 
  • Provide clear and concise: verbal & written communication
  • Perform work to the required level of accuracy

 
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Set-up, operate and adjust model shop equipment
  • Work from drawings & sketches to fabricate sheet metal, wood, and plastic for experimental apparatus or prototypes
  • Understand the basic function of common refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical components
  • Learn the basic troubleshooting methods of common refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical components
  • Work from drawings, verbal and written instruction to construct ice machines and reliability test fixtures
  • Perform repetitive fabrication and assembly tasks
  • Read and follow a basic wiring diagram
  • Maintain lab cleanliness, lab tools, and lab equipment
     

Job Requirements

Job Requirements: 

  • Associate’s degree or one-two year diploma; with a minimum of 3 years of  experience in an HVAC, Electro-mechanical, Automotive or Machine Tool  field required; or will consider a minimum of 5 years of experience in related HVAC, Electro-Mechanical field, Automotive or Machine Tool, in lieu of education. 
  • Possess E.P.A Type I, II refrigerant handling certificate (or the acquisition of, within 1 year of hire)
  • Demonstrate the desire for growth, experience and team participation 
  • Demonstrate functional understanding, in one or more of the following specialized skills:
  • Refrigeration Theory
  • Electronics & Controls
  • National Instruments Data Acquisition
  • System level Electrical Theory
  • Brazing/Soldering
