As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will plan and conduct complex engineering work requiring the application of non-standard and creative techniques, procedures, and criteria.  Plan, direct, coordinate and control engineering efforts and provide expert analysis regarding the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.  Assignments are broad in nature but potentially have a high impact on the organization.


Reporting directly to the Director of Electronic Controls, this position is based in New Port Richey, Florida.


Major Accountabilities:

  • Resolves highly complex technical issues and may conduct advanced research on relevant projects and programs.

  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

  • Performs highly technical engineering work including material selection, structural requirements, tolerances, aesthetics and testing.

  • Provides oversight and routine direction to less experienced staff.


Essential Job Functions:         

  • Evaluates interface among hardware, software, operational and performance requirements.
  • Analyzes system and software requirements to determine feasibility of design.
  • Installs and monitors software system to ensure operation in accordance with specifications.
  • Develops training manuals in the use of new or modified control systems and software.
  • May represent the organization in outside discussions and technical forums.
  • Possesses and applies advanced knowledge in the area of specialization 
  • Experience with a systems development life cycle model (e.g. systems analysis, requirements gathering)
  • LINUX (device driver experience a plus) and other embedded OS experience (e.g. FreeRTOS
  • Strong object-oriented design skills 
  •  Experience in communications bus technologies such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, CAN and Modbus a plus

  • Experience negotiating with, and coordinating the output of, geographically and culturally diverse development teams

  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities

  • High quality organizational and leadership skills

  • IoT experience a plus

  • Experience architecting reusable frameworks for equipment control

  • Structure and behavior- Expect to have to train this

  • Excellent knowledge of UML, SysML and other modeling methods-graphical language

  • Experience in event-based controls systems

  • Strong C/C++ programming language skills

  • Experience with a systems development life cycle model (e.g. systems analysis, requirements gathering

  • Working with wide latitude for unreviewed action or decision, plans, conducts and/or directs research and/or development work on complex projects requiring the origination and application of new and unique approaches.

  • Confers with customer regarding control system and software maintenance.

  • Designs and implements testing methodology; prepares and maintains documentation.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Software) and a minimum of 7 years of professional experience required

  • Ability to travel 15% of the time

  • Knowledgeable of a broad array of engineering principles, practices and procedures in a field of specialization.

  • Considered an expert in one or more engineering specialties.

  • Routinely performs the most challenging assignments with significant latitude for unreviewed action.

  • Uses advanced techniques, modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.


Working Conditions:

  • Normal office or lab environment.  May be required to lift up to 50 Lbs.
