The Director of Electronic Controls leads the corporate function for embedded electronic controls. Responsible for Welbilt strategy and roadmap for controls, high level architectures, and process and tool sets for hardware and software development. Develops and manages a standard build environment and vault for all common UI and I/O software builds and BSP libraries. Works with Strategic Sourcing to identify and qualify the supplier base for hardware, software, and development services. Works with Welbilt brands to develop brand specific functionality.

Reporting directly to the VP Technology, this position is based in New Port Richey, Florida*.

Major Accountability:

  • Builds organization and staff competencies based on controls roadmap and projects
  • Implementation of process and tools for requirements creation and management.
  • Development of common controls building blocks and support brand level applications.
  • Manage DevOps system for software builds and release to products
  • Works closely with Strategic Sourcing continually improving cost and value add delivered by suppliers


Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • •    Provides technical leadership for controls architecture.
  • •    Develops and communicates a business vision and strategy for common controls, processes, and supplier base
  • •    Works closely with Welbilt Strategic Sourcing specifying and investigating new suppliers needed to build a robust supply chain of common controls to our products.
  • •    Establishes objectives, project plans and budgets, and resources to implement controls roadmap, and provides regular updates on progress.
  • •    Gains alignment on hardware and software global synergies and enhancements for cost, performance, and features for common controls and delivers requirements based on customer use cases.
  • •    Create internal competency for hardware and software design and testing through staff acquisition and development.
  • •    Monitors and benchmarks technology and IP for all aspects of embedded controls and sensors.
  • •    Builds a communication and support network among the controls resources located at brand design centers and provides center-based support to projects as needed.
  • •    Supervises work of assigned resources including internal or external contractors.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science and a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Experience and technical expertise in both embedded controls hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge and experience with waterfall/V and agile development processes.
  • Experience with real time OS, QT, wireless communications, GPU and ARM processors, and digital and analog circuits.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate strategy and project details to senior management
